Your event's time zone

When you enter an event's times, you can also say which time zone they're meant to be read in.

On the creation form and in the event's settings, there's a time zone control at the top right — just to the left of the visibility picker. Search for the city, pick it, done.

What it's for

"19:00" on its own is incomplete: whose 19:00? For someone reading from Berlin and someone reading from Istanbul, that isn't the same moment.

Stating the time zone means a remote attendee knows which 19:00 you meant.

It doesn't change the times

This field is a label, not a calculation. Every date and time on Gathin is shown in the reader's own time zone — whether or not you set one here.

So changing the time zone doesn't shift your event, doesn't change the time printed on tickets, and doesn't affect when reminder emails go out. It only adds a note on the page saying which clock those times are on.

That note only appears when it differs from the reader's own zone. Somebody in Istanbul looking at an Istanbul event isn't shown anything extra — it would be repeating what they already know.

You can leave it empty

For an in-person event in one city that only local people will come to, you don't need to touch this. It earns its keep on online events and on events where you expect people from several cities.
