Editing your profile

Your profile is the page that introduces you on Gathin. You can update your photo, your cover, and the short text about yourself any time. All of it lives in Settings.

Where Settings is

On the web, tap your profile photo at the top right and pick Settings from the menu. On a computer the sections are listed on the right; on a phone they all sit on one page as headings that open and close. This article covers the Account, Personal Info and Change Password sections.

In the app, go to the Profile tab and tap the gear icon at the top right. Your name and photo sit at the top of Settings; tap them to open the profile editor. Right below is the Change Password row.

Opening the edit screen

On your profile page, tap the Edit Profile button. On the web it takes you to the Account section of Settings. When you are done, just press Save Changes at the bottom.

There are two image areas at the top of the form:

• Cover: the wide top band. Tap it and use Change cover to pick a new image.
• Profile photo: the round avatar. Change it with the camera icon on it.

While an upload is running, the buttons stay inactive for a moment. They turn active again once the image is in place.

Name, username, and the About text

In the Account section you edit your name, surname and username. As you type a username, the system checks right away whether that name is available. Your username also sets your profile address: your profile opens at gathin.com/yourusername.

The About field is where you describe yourself in a few sentences. You can write what you do and what you are into here. If you leave it empty, it does not show on your profile.

Social links

In the Social links section you paste a link to one of your profiles into the field and tap the + button next to it, or press Enter. To remove a link, tap the cross next to it. These links are listed on your profile for others to see.

Below it, under Calendar, Add to my calendar connects your Gathin events to your own calendar app.

Personal info

Your email, phone number, date of birth, city and gender are in the Personal Info section. Gender also has a Prefer not to say option. You save this section with Save Changes too.

Don't forget to save

For your changes to stick, you need to press Save Changes at the bottom of the form. While it saves, the button briefly shows a Saving state, and then you are set.

In the app, the edit screen has the cover, photo, first and last name, username, About, city and links together. When you change something, Save at the bottom turns on; if you try to leave without saving, the app asks first.

Changing your password

In Settings, go to the Change Password section. Type your current password in Current Password and the new one in New Password. The new password needs at least 8 characters, with at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character, the same rules as when you sign up or reset your password. Each rule is ticked off as you type. Then type the new password once more in Confirm Password and tap Change Password.

If your current password is wrong, you see a warning just above the button and your password stays the same.

In the app, on Settings > Change Password you type the new password once and the same rules always show under the field. Once your password is changed, you stay signed in on that phone. If you do not remember your current password, the Forgot your current password? link opens the password reset steps.

What other people see on your profile

Your profile shows the events you are going to, the ones you have spoken at, the ones you organize, and the communities you have joined — but only the public ones.

A private or unlisted event stays off your profile for everyone but you. So does a private community. If you buy a ticket to a private event, it appears on your own profile and nowhere else; a visitor sees no trace of it, and the counts above the tabs leave it out too.

You see your full picture when you open your own profile while signed in. Anything hidden from visitors is still in your organizer panel and in your tickets.
