Event series

A series gathers events that belong together under one programme: the episodes of a podcast, the weeks of a course, the rounds of a monthly meetup.

The series has a page of its own — cover, description, its own registrations and comments. Every event inside it keeps its own page and its own tickets.

Create a series

In your community's admin panel, go to Events. Press the arrow next to the Create event button and choose Create a series.

You get the ordinary event creation form. A series is an event record: same cover, same title, same description, same community. The only difference is that it can hold other events underneath it.

Add events to it

Once the series exists, open it in the panel. In the left menu, directly under Overview, you'll find Events in this series. There are two ways in:

• Add an existing event: pick one of your community's events that isn't already in another series.
• New event in this series: create a new event straight underneath it.

Episode numbers come from the dates. The earliest event is 1; add something earlier later on and the numbering shifts by itself.

Removing an event from a series doesn't delete it

The bin at the end of a row takes the event out of the series — it doesn't delete it. The event keeps its page, its attendees and its tickets; it simply isn't part of this programme any more.

The same holds the other way round: deleting a series doesn't delete the events inside it.

Series don't appear in listings

A series won't show on the home page, on your community page, in search or in categories. The reason is simple: if it did, it would sit in those lists beside its own episodes, muddled in with them.

There are two ways to reach a series: a link somebody sent you, or the Series section on any event inside it. That section appears on every member event.

In your own panel, the series sits in your event list with a SERIES tag — and the events inside it don't appear separately there. You reach those from the series' own tab. That way a twelve-part podcast doesn't bury the rest of your community in the list.

Joining a series

The button on a series page says Join series. Somebody who joins the series is told when a new event is added to the programme.

That message only goes to people who joined the series itself. It doesn't go to somebody who attended one of the episodes but never joined the series — otherwise every new episode would write to everyone.

Speakers and comments

A series has no speaker list of its own. The speakers on its page are collected from its episodes, with duplicates folded into one. That's also why a series has no Speakers tab in the panel.

Comments work the same way: the list on a series page holds both the series' own comments and the ones from its episodes, side by side. Each comment from an episode names the event it came from and links there — so a reply lands where the comment it answers lives.
