Ecosystems

A university's clubs, an association's branches, the separate teams inside one organization — when each of those lives as its own community but they need to be seen together, that is what an ecosystem is for. It is a layer above communities: its own page, its own identity, and a feed showing the events of every community beneath it.
An ecosystem does not replace a community. Each community keeps its own page, members, events and plan exactly as before; the ecosystem only connects them.
The ecosystem page
An ecosystem has a public address. The page carries its logo, its description, the communities under it and their upcoming events. Sharing one link is how you say "all of our events are here".
A visitor can move from there into any individual community's own page.
Requests to join
A community isn't added to an ecosystem on its own; it applies to join with Apply with a community on the ecosystem's page. The people who run the ecosystem see the request and approve or reject it. You can also apply with a single event; see Joining an ecosystem.
An ecosystem can't invite a community under its roof — the approach comes from the community. Only Gathin's platform team can add a community directly, without an application.
The ecosystem panel
From their own panel, the people who run an ecosystem can:
- Applications — see which communities or events want in, and decide with Approve or Reject.
- Communities — see the communities in the ecosystem and how each one got in.
- Settings — edit the ecosystem's name, descriptions, logo, banner and links.
Taking a community out of an ecosystem is up to Gathin's platform team. Running an ecosystem walks through the whole panel.
Who can do what
To apply with your community you need to be one of its admins; the list you apply from shows only the communities you run. Approving or rejecting the request is up to the people who run the ecosystem.
When a community leaves an ecosystem it loses nothing — its page, members and events stay exactly where they were. It simply stops appearing on the ecosystem's page.
