Joining an ecosystem

An ecosystem never absorbs anyone quietly. Everything in one is there because somebody asked and somebody said yes.

Applying

Open the ecosystem's page — you need its link, since ecosystems are not listed anywhere. Under the figures at the top you'll find two buttons:

• Apply with a community — for the whole community, permanently.
• Apply with an event — for one event only.

Each opens a picker of what you actually run: the communities you administer, or your events. Pick one, send it, and the request waits for the ecosystem's decision. You will see a note confirming it was sent.

You can only apply with something you run. If the picker is empty, you don't administer a community (or don't have an event) that could join.

Community or event?

Both, usually — and they are separate decisions.

Putting your community in an ecosystem does not put its events there. Events are added one at a time, each on its own. That is deliberate: a chapter belongs to a network permanently, while a given meetup may or may not be part of what the network wants to show. A community joining and its events appearing are two different questions, so they are asked separately.

So if you want a particular event on the ecosystem's page, apply with that event too — even if your community is already in.

After you apply

Whoever runs the ecosystem sees your request and approves or rejects it. Approving puts you in straight away, and your community appears in the ecosystem's list; the event appears in its feed.

Nothing changes on your side. Your community keeps its own page, its own members, its own settings. Being in an ecosystem adds a place you appear — it takes nothing away.

Leaving

Ask whoever runs the ecosystem to remove you. They can take a community or an event out from their panel at any time.
