Find events and communities

You can find something to join on Gathin in three places: the Events page, the Communities page and search. You can browse events and communities without an account.

The home page

If you are signed in, the home page opens straight into the events list. At the top, Featured Events shows the events drawing the most interest across communities right now, with upcoming events below.

If you are not signed in, the home page introduces Gathin. You can browse events at /events.

The Events page

The Events link in the top menu (on a phone, inside the three-line menu button at the top right) takes you to the Events page (/events). Under Upcoming Events, events are grouped by day, so you can see what is on each day.

The buttons beside the heading narrow the list:

• Pick a specific day with the calendar icon. To remove it, tap Clear under the calendar.
• Choose All Events, In-person or Online from the dropdown to filter events by whether they are in person or online.
• If you are signed in, the ticket icon shows only Registered Events and the bookmark icon only Saved Events. Tap the same icon again to bring back the full list.

To the side of the page there is a Popular Communities list, which also takes you on to the Communities page.

The Communities page

To explore communities, use the Communities link in the top menu (on a phone, in the same three-line menu) to go to the Communities page (/communities).

At the top, Featured Communities shows the communities drawing the most interest on Gathin right now. It always shows the same communities, whatever you pick below it.

Under it, All Communities lists every other community, so the featured ones are not shown twice. Each card shows the community's banner, logo and name, two lines of its description, a few members with how many it has, and a Join button (Joined once you are a member). The row of category names above the list narrows it: tap Technology, Music or another category to see only the communities in it, and All to see every one again. The list's title changes to the category you picked, and the line under it says what you are looking at. If you are signed in, the menu at the end of the category row switches between All Communities and Joined Communities, the ones you are a member of. The two work together, so you can look at only the music communities you belong to.

Tap a community to open its page. To join, press Join Community at the top of that page.

Search

If you are looking for something specific, use search. Click the search icon at the top of the page, or press Cmd/Ctrl + K on your keyboard. If you are signed in, search finds events, communities, and people together.

Results appear as you type. Click one to open its page.

The search window also has two separate modes:

• Discover Venues: searches the venue directory by name or city. It lists venues even with the box empty, and you don't need to be signed in.
• Explore the platform: searches this guide and the platform's own pages. Inside the guide, the window opens straight into this mode.

If you are not signed in, the search window has only these two modes. The search icon in the top bar then shows only in this guide; on other pages you open the window with Cmd/Ctrl + K.

In the app

In the app, the Home tab opens with Featured Events, then Popular Communities (tap the title for the full list), then Upcoming Events. The menu beside Upcoming Events narrows the list to the events you registered for, the ones you saved, or only in-person or online events; tapping the title opens every event, where you can also pick a day. The Discover tab has a search box with a category menu beside it, then communities, popular events (in the category you picked) and certificate programs. The search box opens a separate search screen, where you can narrow results to all, events, communities or people.
